At 23-0, Matt Hokanson has been a force for the Bemidji High School tennis team all season. He cruised through the North Sub-Section 8 AA tournament last week and enters the Singles Section Championships as the number one seed in the North.

Hokanson stood one match away from the Class AA State Tournament in 2014 when he and partner Noah Holter lost in the Doubles Section Championship. Half of the doubles team who beat them is the number one seed in the South bracket, Becker’s Dawson Brown.

The strength of Hokanson’s game lies in his serve, which can reach up to 120 miles per hour. The blistering serve transformed one player into a statue at the North Sub-Section Tournament.

Hokanson has won every match this season, but he knows the competition will only get harder with every step he takes toward State. Hokanson begins play in the Section 8 AA Championships Wednesday, May 27 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Cloud.
