Man Accused Of Decapitating Hibbing Man To Have Contested Hearing

A contested hearing will be held for a Grand Rapids man charged in connection with a murder of a Hibbing man.

According to the Herald Review, Joseph Christen Thoresen, 35, appeared in court on Tuesday. His attorneys requested a contested hearing in order to challenge some of the evidence in the case.

It is unclear what evidence the attorneys are looking to contest. The attorneys also had questions about the transcript from the grand jury proceedings.

Thoresen and girlfriend Kayleene Danielle Greniger, 22, of Grand Rapids were charged with two felony counts of first degree murder and two felony counts of second degree murder. According to the Herald Review, the two were charged in connection to David Haiman’s death.

Haiman was killed near Ball Club, with his torso and body found in separate locations, according to a criminal complaint. Thoresen hit Haiman on the head with a baseball bat, then stabbed him in the lungs with a machete. Thoresen then cut off Haiman’s head and put it in a bag, which he then threw it in the woods.

In the complaint, Greniger told authorities she was upset when Haiman was going to her place and then told Thoresen that Haiman raped her. When he arrived, she punched him. He then allegedly agreed to be tied up and beaten up.

The three then went to smoke marijuana in Deer River and then went to Ball Club to smoke meth with a friend, according to the complaint.

There was an argument and Thoresen got out of the car. He allegedly hit Haiman in the back with a baseball bat, and then stabbed him in the back and torso. Thoresen then decapitated him with a large knife.
