“The Boys of Bataan” is a powerful documentary that delves into the experiences of the young men from Brainerd, Minnesota, who served in the 194th Tank Battalion, Company A during World War II. Narrated by John Erickson, the Archivist and Curator for Brainerd Public Schools, this film begins with a look at the original high school where these brave soldiers once studied and dreamed of their futures.

Through the lens of Erickson’s storytelling, we are introduced to several of these soldiers, each with a unique story that brings to life the timeline of events in the Philippines. Their personal journeys offer a human connection to the larger narrative of America’s involvement in World War II, highlighting the resilience and sacrifice of the 194th Company A in the tragic Battle of Bataan.

The documentary also captures the annual memorial ceremony held at the National Guard Armory in Brainerd, MN. This ceremony honors the memory of the men from Company A, ensuring their legacy endures within the community. “The Boys of Bataan” is not just a recounting of historical events, but a tribute to the courage and enduring spirit of these hometown heroes.
