Level 3 Offender Moving to Brainerd

The Brainerd Police Department has been notified by the Minnesota Department of Corrections of the relocation of a Level 3 Predatory Offender that intends to reside in the Brainerd City Limits.

The Minnesota Department of Corrections has reported that 47- year- old Michael Scott Swearingen will be released from the Minnesota Correctional Facility in Lino Lakes on October 20th.  Swearingen then intends to be living in the 100 block of Gillis Avenue NE, in Brainerd.

A community notification meeting about Swearingen will be held Tuesday, October 18th, at 6:00p.m. at the Brainerd Police Department.  This meeting is open to the public.  Brainerd Police and the Minnesota Department of Corrections staff will be at the meeting to provide information regarding this and to answer questions.

Swearingen has resided in NE Brainerd in the past. He has a history of sexual contact with minor male and female victims from 6 to 15 years old. The offender was known to the victims and the conduct included showing them pornography, indecent exposure, along with sexual contact and penetration. Swearingen is not currently wanted by the police and has served the sentence imposed on him by the court.
