Leech Lake Awarded Shelter Funding

Funding from the federal government will help Leech Lake build a shelter for veterans who are also homeless in the area.

The money, about $160,000 in total, will go toward paying rent for twenty five veterans when they stay at the facility. The building will be constructed as part the tribe’s multi-step master plan, with construction on the veteran’s home beginning after more funds have been acquired.

The tribe is currently building an assisted living center for Leech Lake’s elders. After the veteran’s center is built in the project’s second phase, another two buildings will be constructed to help members with behavioral health issues.
