Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity Building A Milestone

Before the Brainerd Housing and Redevelopment Authority stepped in, an old, run down house occupied the corner of 14th and Norwood Street in Brainerd. Now, the Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity has control of that corner lot, and they’re building something very special on it.

Construction began just over a week ago, and already the frame is up, and the guts are being put in. The 100th home for the Lakes Area Habitat is a unique one. It includes a garage, which Executive Director Kevin Pelkey says they’ve never done before. And the thing that makes it so special is who the house is for.

And with still close to three weeks of work left, the Lakes Area Habitat is asking for help.
