Clayton joined the Lakeland News team in February 2017 as the Sports/News Reporter in the Brainerd office. Clayton proudly shoots, edits, writes, and reports his own stories for air. He is living his dream and excited to begin that dream in Minnesota!
Clayton comes to Minnesota from his hometown of Cincinnati, OH, where he got his start in broadcast journalism as a production assistant at WLWT-TV, the local NBC-affiliate. He was also a freelance news and sports journalist, writing for such publications as TriStateFootball.com, The River City News, and Fort Thomas Matters. Clayton also provided football and basketball play-by-play for NKYSports.com. Through his freelance writing gigs, he covered two Kentucky high school state football title games at Western Kentucky University and one Kentucky high school state basketball Final Four, sitting press row at Rupp Arena, home of the Kentucky Wildcats, in Lexington.
Clayton is a 2015 graduate of Northern Kentucky University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Journalism. While at NKU, Clayton wrote for the student newspaper, The Northerner, and served as Sports Editor during his senior year.
Born and raised in the Queen City of Cincinnati, OH, Clayton is a proud 2011 graduate of the famed Walnut Hills High School. Walnut Hills is consistently ranked as one of the academic best public high schools in the country. When not one-man-banding around Brainerd, Clayton enjoys traveling, trying new restaurants and local brews, and running. He is a die-hard fan of the Cincinnati Reds, Bengals, and Bearcats and believes there is no such thing as eating too much Skyline Chili, Graeter’s Ice Cream, LaRosa’s Pizza, or Montgomery Inn ribs, all Cincinnati delicacies.
