Chaz Mootz
Sports Director/Anchor
Chaz joined the Lakeland News team in June 2019 as a Sports and News Reporter in Brainerd. Chaz reports important stories in the community and with area athletic teams, shoots highlights of local games, and covers stories about outdoor activities in the Brainerd community.
Chaz began his career in the summer of 2017 reporting as a sports intern for WAOW, an ABC affiliate in Wausau, WI. He focused on covering local high school area teams along with shooting highlights of local area events on weekends. The following summer, Chaz returned again to WAOW and covered local area teams more extensively and also shot news stories as well. Chaz’s most memorable stories were covering Green Bay Packer preseason games, Jerry Kramer’s Hall of Fame induction, and the Wausau Marathon.
Chaz is a 2019 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he majored in Communications with an emphasis in media studies and minored in Psychology. During his four years of college, Chaz played on the UWSP men’s basketball team. He attended high school in Merrill, WI where he played basketball and football.
In his spare time, Chaz stays active lifting weights, running, biking, swimming and playing basketball. He is a big Wisconsin sports fan (Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Bucks, Milwaukee Brewers, and especially the Green Bay Packers). He loves spending time with his friends and family, especially at his family cottage in northern Wisconsin. He also enjoys following his three younger brothers play basketball in college and high school and still thinks he can beat all of them in a 1 on 1 pickup game.
