AJ joined the Lakeland News team in March 2018 as a Sports and News Reporter in Brainerd. In April, he became the station’s Sports Director. AJ manages the department, anchors the nightly sportscast, shoots highlights of local games, and reports the important stories of the area’s teams. He’s very excited to be serving the Lakeland community.
AJ began his professional career reporting as an intern for ESPN Ithaca. Later, he was a reporting intern covering the Western New York Flash as they won the 2016 National Women’s Soccer League title. He then worked for Torrance CitiCABLE as a reporter in Southern California covering the local high school sports scene, including Bishop Montgomery’s state title run. AJ interned for Van Wagner Sports and Entertainment producing content for organizations such as the NFL Draft, the Kentucky Derby, and the NCAA. He also covered the Buffalo Sabres, Buffalo Bills, and other local sports teams as an intern for WROC-TV in Rochester, NY.
AJ is a 2018 graduate of Ithaca College where he majored in Television-Radio production with a minor in Journalism. While attending IC, he was heavily involved with the school’s television and radio programs. He worked as a sideline reporter and also hosted the football broadcast’s pregame, halftime, and postgame shows. AJ anchored the station’s news broadcasts, reported on Ithaca and Cornell sports, and called play-by-play for several basketball games. AJ received national recognition when he produced a weekly sports trivia show that took second place in the 2018 Broadcast Education Associated Festival of Arts. He attended high school in Eden, NY where he played basketball, ran track, and was a captain on the golf team which finished undefeated in his final two years.
In his free time, AJ enjoys playing golf, basketball, pickleball, and many other sports, spending time with friends and family, and exploring Minnesota. He’s a passionate fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Sabres, and Houston Rockets, and yes, he realizes that is a strange combination.
