Lakeland Currents: Northern Dental Access Center
Lakeland Currents host Bethany Wesley welcomes Jeanne Edevold Larson, Executive Director of the Northern Dental Access Center in Bemidji. The Northern Dental Access Center is a nonprofit dental clinic that serves low-income families and individuals enrolled in Minnesota Health Care Programs. The Northern Dental Access Center currently serves up to 80 patients a day. Since opening in 2009, the number of annual patients has increased steadily, from 2,200 in its first year to 17,000 last year. The center has already expanded its operations three times and is now working to raise support and funds to allow for the construction of a new, much larger facility. In his recent bonding bill proposal, Governor Mark Dayton has included $6 million toward the $9 million project.
