Lake of the Week: Grant Lake

Let’s begin by helping you find this treasure of Wilton, about eight miles west of Bemidji.
Turn south from U.S. Highway 2 onto County Highway 14. Go left at the yield sign, and turn right onto third street and follow the signs to the public water access. Before you lies the 206 acre Grant Lake.

The lake provides a great variety of fish including bluegill, crappie, perch, bass, northern pike, walleye, bullhead, sunfish, and tullibee.  There really is something for everyone.   Beef Sathre’s sons Logan and Luke hit the shallows near the lillipads for the sunfish, bluegills, and perch. Luke fishes with his hands more than his reel.

Logan uses the slip bobber with a bobber stop and a small firefly jig tipped with a wax worm or a plastic bait. Logan prefers the plastic.

The lake dives down to a depth of 92 feet.  The deeper wider provides a good place to search for walleyes and northern pike. Sathre likes to use a crank-bait on Grant Lake.

Grant Lake provides more than a fishing opportunity on hot summer days, the swim area makes it fun for the whole family.
