Kids Bring Famous Americans To Life In Wax Museum At St. Philip’s School

A recent class assignment brought historical figures, athletes, and icons from the past and present to life.

Fifth graders at St. Philip’s School dressed up as famous Americans for the annual living wax museum. They stood still as parents and other students walked around the room. The students got to pick who they wanted to portray during the wax museum.

“I’m Nastia Liukin who is an all-around gold Olympian gymnast. I chose her because I was in gymnastics for nine years and I thought she was a cool role model,” fifth grader Alivia said.

This assignment is done every year at St. Philip’s School by the fifth graders to teach them the research writing process. Each student wrote a research paper about the person they portrayed and shared what they had learned.

“So it’s the first research paper they have done, so it’s getting the steps with editing and revising and doing the research, using multiple sources, and the fact that they get to choose who they are is what really gets them going,” St. Philip’s School 5^th Grade Teacher Amy Sanden said.
