About 350 volunteers in Nisswa performed their part in fighting hunger by packing about 70,000 meals at Kids Against Hunger on Sunday.
The organization purchases the food with donations, which are packed completely by volunteers.
The group consisted primarily of members of the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.
The work stretches well beyond the community by sending food around Minnesota, and as far as Haiti.
The Haiti meals consist of a rice and soy casserole with dehydrated vegetables and vitamin powder.
The Minnesota meals include soy and vitamin-fortified macaroni and cheese.
The Lutheran Church of the Cross members have been contributing their time all year, assembling 50,000 meals before Sunday’s big effort. The big day pushed the group over the 100,000 meal goal.
