Interstate 94 at Highway 15 will be reduced to one Lane after Memorial Day

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Commuters and other motorists who travel westbound Interstate 94 at Highway 15 in St. Cloud should expect congestion and potential delays as the interstate is reduced to a single lane beginning Tuesday, May 31.

Westbound Interstate 94 has been reduced to a single lane west of St. Cloud since mid-May. Beginning Tuesday, that lane closure will be extended farther east to Highway 15.

Motorists should note the following beginning May 31:

• Westbound I-94 between Highway 15 in St. Cloud and County Road 159 in Collegeville will be reduced single lane with a reduced speed limit until further notice.
• Eastbound I-94 between County Road 159 in Collegeville and Highway 23 in St. Cloud will be reduced to a single lane with a reduced speed limit until further notice.
• Backups of five to eight miles are possible on eastbound I-94 during peak travel times, with slow and go traffic expected during weekday rush hours.
• Backups of several miles are also likely on westbound I-94 during peak travel times on Friday afternoons and evenings, with slow and go traffic expected during weekday rush hours.
• All lanes of eastbound I-94 at Highway 15 in St. Cloud will be open.
• All lanes of I-94 between St. Cloud and Collegeville will open permanently in fall, 2016.

Motorists should check www.511mn.org before they travel, plan alternate routes and stagger travel times to avoid rush hours if possible.

The closures are part of two projects to resurface and improve segments of I-94 between St. Joseph and Collegeville, and repair two bridges at the I-94/Highway 15 interchange in St. Cloud. The combined projects will provide a smoother ride along six miles of I-94, improve drainage and safety, and extend the life of the bridges and roadway.
