Helping People With Disabilities

For people with mental disabilities, the common challenge of finding work can be overcome.

40-year-old Young Ah Kirby is an employee at Marketplace Foods. She was helped by the Bemidji Occupational Development Center’s Individual Placement and Support program in getting that job. It’s the third workplace she’s been in during the last year.

Occupational specialists work with people with disabilities and help them develop the skills they need to succeed in a workplace. They also meet with business that may be uneasy about hiring someone in that situation and convince them to make a hire.

Learn more about Kirby’s story and the program here.
