Gull Lake Dam and Recreation Area Reopens Memorial Day Weekend

One hundred mile winds snapped a majority of the tops of trees when 26 guests were present at the Gull Lake Dam and Recreation Area last summer.

No guests were injured during the storm, but the damage garnered one million dollars to the area in state disaster aid. Over 160 volunteers helped with the clearing of campsites and with the help of the DNR, planted over 1,200 seedlings. Because of their efforts the campsite is planning for a filled Memorial Day weekend.

Turner explained that for the next few years guests will see remains from the storm. The campgrounds now, however, are safe for recreation use for the remainder of the summer.
