Honor the Earth is continuing their fight against the Sandpiper oil pipeline, but this time, the environmental group is getting some help. Today, a crowd of people joined Winona LaDuke, the head of the Native American-led organization, to start the stop the Sandpiper alliance.

People at the rally joined LaDuke to fulfill her dream of riding horses against the current of the oil. As part of the rally, LaDuke led a 10-12 mile horse back ride along highway 87 in Backus. Honor the Earth is planning a longer horse back ride this summer between August 14th and 28th.

A representative from Enbridge says that the company is working to find the best option or the best route for the pipeline and that safety is a top priority. The representative said, “We do a lot of research before to make sure that we are in the least environmentally impactful area and taking the route that is the most efficient for our producers.”
