A Grand Rapids woman is dead after she was stabbed by a 15-year old Grand Rapids teenager on Tuesday, April 16 at 9:45 p.m. at Murphy Elementary School.

According to the news release, a Grand Rapids Police officer and a State Patrol Trooper responded to a report of the stabbing and arrived at the school within four minutes.

They found a 15-year old Grand Rapids teenager standing in the playground holding a knife. According to the release, Chere Morgan, 20, was on the ground next to him. She had suffered a stab wound to her abdomen. Officers began resuscitation efforts.

According to the release, the 15-year old was taken into custody and is currently in a secure detention facility. Meds1 paramedics transported Morgan to Grand Itasca Hospital where she succumbed to her knife wounds.

“We believe this meeting was arranged by these two people and not related to the school. The public is not in danger. Drugs were found at the scene,” Grand Rapids Police Chief Scott Johnson said.

In addition to the Minnesota State Patrol, assistance was received from the Itasca County Sheriff’s Department, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Bovey Police Department.

The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating the incident. Lakeland News will have updates as soon as they are made available.
