Grand Rapids Offers Last Chance for Yellow Brick Road Engravings

The yellow brick road has been a staple of downtown Grand Rapids for decades.

It honors Judy Garland, star of “The Wizard of Oz”, a famous film from 1939. She was born in Grand Rapids with the name Frances Ethel Gumm.

The road features brick engravings, written by fans of the movie and as a tributes for loved ones. They’ve been placed in the road since the film’s 50th anniversary in 1989.

Locals can now request bricks for the last time, as the final deadline for the project will be June 1.

They are asked to call the Itasca County Historical Society at (218)326-6431 or visit their website (itascahistorical.org) to place orders.
