Grand Rapids Home Invader Pleads Guilty

Itasca County, MN – Edward Wade Fauth, 19, of Grand Rapids, pled guilty today in the Itasca County District Court for the August 3 home invasion at a residence in Grand Rapids.

Fauth is charged with one count of aggravated robbery in the first degree and one count of burglary in the first degree. He pled guilty to one count of aggravated robbery in the fist degree.

This is pursuant to an agreement with the prosecutor in which Fauth would be placed on 10 years of supervised probation with multiple probation conditions including serving 12 months in the Itasca County Jail.

The crime happened on August 3, 2016 at 11:15 p.m. Officers received a report of a male who was later identified as Zachary Walter Cary, 28, wearing an orange mask and holding someone hostage at gunpoint. Cary later identified Fauth who had allegedly called and told him about a house in Grand Rapids and that the homeowner was out of town.

The two met in Duluth to plan the invasion. Fauth’s vehicle was supposed to be the get-away vehicle and was parked at a rest area near Grand Rapids.

Cary was dropped off at the residence but encountered a male and a female who later exposed him to the authorities. Fauth was found soon afterwards and arrested as well.

Fauth’s sentencing hearing is set for December 19, 2016 at 9:00 a.m.
