Governor Mark Dayton in Brainerd for Health Conference and School Visit

Governor Mark Dayton visited the Lakes Area for the Community Health Conference and to learn more about Brainerd schools.
Dayton begins his Brainerd visit at the Community Health Conference.
Dayton and Minnesota Commissioner of Health Dr. Ed Ehlinger speak in front of more than 400 public health workers from across the state.
The conference gathers people to facilitate the exchange of ideas from one community to improve health in another community.
After speaking at the conference, Dayton visits Garfield Elementary School in Brainerd to learn more about the schools nominated for a national blue ribbon award.
The national award recognizes schools where students perform at very high levels or have significantly improved academic achievement.
Brainerd Public Schools lead the way in Minnesota with all day, everyday kindergarten beginning in 2007.
The governor mingles with the kindergarteners and reads the book written and illustrated by the class, just for him.
Dayton speaks with school staff about how the school functions and leaves with a new understanding of Brainerd schools.
