Governor Dayton’s Health Care Proposal Could Bring $39 Million Dollars in Comprehensive Care

1 in 4 adults and 1 in 5 children will experience a mental illness in a given year. And between 70% to 90% of individuals treated for serious mental illness have significant reduction of symptoms and improved quality of life. Because of those Minnesota Department of Human Services statistics Governor Mark Dayton has proposed a $39 million dollar investment into Minnesota’s mental healthcare system. The plan will emphasis preventative and recovery.
Commissioner Jesson was in Brainerd today to tour Northern Pines Mental Health Center and to learn about some of their treatments that are helping those in recovery.
At Northern Pines Mental Health Center, their certified peer support specialists are recovering themselves. And they say by helping others helps them.
A part of Governor’s plan $4.7 million dollars will go towards establishing a single statewide emergency crisis line. Jesson says Northern Pines has the same funding for their crisis services today as they did five years ago, but it’s helping five times the people.
