Gov. Dayton Creates Council To Tackle Community Relations After Police Shootings

Gov. Mark Dayton is working with several law enforcement representatives, an NAACP official and a member of Black Lives Matter to create a council to study how to improve community relations with police.

Dayton’s executive order was announced Wednesday and comes after the shootings of two black men. Minnesota is still coping with the deaths of Jamar Clark and Philando Castile whose deaths by police officers garnered national attention from the press.

Advocates have suggested police bias training and court reforms while police organizations have expressed concern about violence against officers.
