Golden Living Residents Enjoy Open House

Come one, come all. That’s the motto for the Golden Living Center as they held its Open House in Walker. Residents were able to mingle with guests and with family. It was also open to the public.

“A special time for them,” said Brenda Buck, dietary manager. “They look forward to it every year and they like to see the public come in.”

“It’s a special thing for them.”

The nursing home and long term care center provides skilled services such as rehabilitation and therapy. Today residents could leave any worries behind and enjoy the moment.

“I think it’s good for them to see that they have a quality of life here and we do special stuff for them and make things fun,” said Buck.

The music was courtesy of the carolers that made their way to the rooms. Residents chimed in too.

The facility was turned into a Christmas paradise. Trees were in rooms and each door was decorated. For those who are away from family they are reminded of them everyday.

“I said if I can’t be with my family, I want to see my family,” said Golden Living resident Sandie Rogers. “And I talk to them as if they’re there.”

“It makes me feel good. I know they don’t hear it.”

Some presents don’t necessarily fit under the tree but are still considered a gift.

“Well Christmas means so many things to me honey,” said Golden Living resident Pearl Rose. “And to top it off all Christmas means that God gave his son.”

“And that’s the greatest gift.”

All that was missing were the Chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
