Golden Apple: Pillager Middle School’s Rube Goldberg Challenge

How many steps does it take you to take a picture? Mr. Herman’s Pillager Middle School 6th grade physical science class was assigned to figure out a way to take a picture in at least five steps. The project is geared to get the students more involved in their education.
One group had the ability to work on their Rube Goldberg Challenge in an empty warehouse in Baxter and they says it allowed them to continue their learning process outside of the classroom.
Here’s their project… the kids pulled the pipe that removed the block holding the marble that hits the dominoes into the tape measurer activating the golf ball that cuts the scissors releasing the softball that hits the camera that takes the kids picture. The kids say the obstacles activated their creativity.
Mr. Herman says the kids weren’t the only ones having fun with the project.
Mr. Herman says he has more projects in mind this year to keep his students engaged.
