Golden Apple: GRHS Teacher Globalizes Classroom Upon Returning from Africa

Brielle Carlson traveled to Senegal, West Africa for two weeks then integrated her experience back in her Geography class in Grand Rapids High School.

Carlson is one of 80 teachers chosen for a grant by the Teachers for Global Classroom (TGC) program. Teachers traveled to all parts of the world to learn their culture and their education system.

During her trip, Carlson started a blog that allows her students to experience and jump in on questions she frequently posted.

Carlson says the leaders she spoke to at Senegal identified healthcare as the top priority and demand within their community. She is making an effort to stay in contact with the children and hopes to travel back there again sometime.
