Golden Apple: Forestview Middle School Walks for Water

Water. It’s something we take for granted in the Brainerd Lakes Area. But for some parts of the developing world people have to walk for miles just to have a cup of water. To raise awareness of this need for water, Forestview Middle School hosted their 4th annual H20 For Life event.
The donations from the water walk go to Water For Life, which is non-profit, which build better water systems and teach better hygiene practices in developing countries. The locations Forestview is helping are in Nicaragua and Guatemala. And Loney says the students simulated a water walk but in a much easier environment.
Forestview walked with two one-gallon water jugs for 27 laps or three miles to remind students how far some people walk for water.
Dairy Queen helped Forestview raise over $1,600 outside of the normal donations. And Forestview Middle School says after the water walk they re-used the water in the jugs for the school floor cleaners.
