Golden Apple: Backyard Skiing

Skiing has become a staple of Thursdays at Horace May Elementary in Bemidji.

When the weather fits the sport, students head to the back of the school with several teachers to ski on small hills that sit on school property.

It’s thanks to $1,000 in grants from local and national outdoor sports organizations that the school has the equipment it needs for so many kids. A maximum of 30 kids can take part if they need to borrow gear, but more Horace May students are free to take part if they have their own skis.

The kids say they have a blast, even if they fall several times along the way.
