Germ Zapping Robot at St. Joseph’s Medical Center

Essential Health at St. Joseph’s Medical Center has enhanced their room disinfection process. The medical center has added a new germ zapping robot that uses UV light to kill microscopic germs after a room is cleaned.

The purple and orange machine you may see roaming down the halls of the St. Joseph’s Medical Center is know at Ethel, the germ zapping robot.

Ethel is just an addition to the room disinfection process. The first step begins with the housekeeping staff.

And placing items on the bed is so Ethel can come in next. Ethel can only cover about a 7 foot radius, so she is places around the room twice and once in the bathroom.

Although the process begins with the housekeeping staff cleaning the room, Ethel’s job takes the process just a little bit further.

Targeting high risk rooms like their intensive care units and C diff rooms where bacteria can be spread easily among infected surfaces.

With the addition of Ethel they believe they can satisfy patients by providing a safe and clean environment.
