Former CLC and BSU Presidents Recognized with Emeritus Status

St. Paul, Minn., – The Minnesota State Colleges and Universities Board of Trustees awarded three former college and university presidents emeritus status. Larry Lundblad, former president of Central Lakes College for 10 years, Richard Hanson, former president of Bemidji State University, were two of the three awarded.

Hanson, who served as president of Bemidji State and Northwest Technical from 2010 until 2016 has been recognized for several accomplishments but especially for a $36 million capital campaign that doubled the university’s endowment.

“The important thing to understand about all of the excitement and support surrounding the campaign is that it began with Dick’s passion for Bemidji State,” said Minnesota State Universities Chancellor Steven Rosenstone in a press release published by Central Lakes College “He hoped Bemidji’s first comprehensive fundraising campaign would foster a culture of philanthropy – and it did.”

Former President Lundblad served a total of 38 years to Minnesota State. He has been credited for several accomplishments including the development of collaborations with regional business, industry, and agriculture partners.

He is also recognized for positioning the college as a critical player in regional and statewide economic development efforts; and building strong partnerships with public schools.

Rosenstone said, “Over the years, under Larry’s leadership, the college became more responsive, departments began to work together more, student engagement increased, and the decision-making process became more collaborative.”

Earl H. Potter III, former president of St. Cloud State University, was the third awarded with Emeritus status.
