A unique event honoring soldiers and their families is coming to the Brainerd Lakes Area next week for the second year.

The Honoring Families of Soldiers event will be held next Thursday, May 2 at the Essentia Sports Center in Brainerd. The event features a dinner followed by a Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond tribute concert by Doug Allen Nash. Proceeds from the event will go directly to Folds of Honor and the Vigilant Guardians, a motorcycle club in the area that assists veterans in need.

“Our mission statement is to help assisting veterans in need. We work in collaboration with the Veteran County Service Office, the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans,” explained Justin Doerfler who is a member of Vigilant Guardians.

“It’s a unique fundraiser that many people probably have not experienced before and our whole goal is to honor the soldier and their family,” said event organizer Carrie Lee. “Because there’s not enough help for that group.”
