Eating Local Benefits
Starting tomorrow Minneapolis’ stores will be required to carry more categories of food to increase the amount of healthier food options in their neighborhoods. Here in the Brainerd Lakes Area there’s already a couple of organizations already working on providing those healthier options by making local produce more available. Local farmers say it’s more nutritious to eat locally rather than eating commercially enhanced foods.
Eating more local produce also helps reduce the amount process foods we consume, which don’t have the same nutritional value.
Eating local produce doesn’t just have personal health benefits, but it’s also good for the health of the local economy.
Sprout Minnesota is one of those local organizations that’s helping over 40 growers get local produce to Central Minnesota.
Local restaurants that support local farmers through Sprout MN include:
Central Lakes College, Brainerd & Staples campuses
Lakewood Riverwood, Essential and Cuyuna Healthcare Systems
Heartwood Assisted Living
Prairie Bay Grill and Restaurant
Grand View Lodge
