Early Childhood Coalition Hosts Last Event in Pequot Lakes Area

For the last ten years the Pequot Lakes, Breezy Point and Crosslake Early Childhood Coalition have created afterschool programs to improve early childhood learning and literacy. The coalition says the faster a child starts learning and reading the more successful they’ll be in the classroom and in life.

Last evening’s Run and Read event was the culmination of the 10 years of work towards early learning and literacy. There was story time on the carpet, ice cream sundaes donated by Culvers and an indoor run playtime with families. The coalition says the indoor family playtime really filled a need in the community.

Although the coalition is ending they’ll continue to contribute in other ways throughout the community. And they’ll continue to make books available through their Bright Red Bookshelf Program.

The Bright Red Bookshelves can be found in six locations at the Pequot Lakes and Crosslake food shelves, Breezy Point and Gildner Parks, B.P. gas station in Jenkins and the Breezy Point Ice Arena. The coalition will also continue to help with early learning and literacy summer programs at Pequot Lakes Library. For a list of events this summer visit www.lakesareakids.com
