E-F1 Tornado Confirmed In Camp Ripley Storm

Storms knocked down roofs, trees and damaged vehicles throughout the garrison areas of the National Guard’s Camp Ripley Training Center on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says a damage survey was conducted to investigate the damage that occurred on Wednesday night, including at Camp Ripley. It was concluded to be a weak tornado of EF-1 rating.

The Minnesota National Guard says storm cells passed through Morrison County just after 10:00 p.m. Several buildings used for housing, training and maintenance received major damage.

There was also heavy damage to the nearly completed solar garden that was set to be dedicated this week. The dedication has now been postponed until further notice.

There were no injuries from the severe weather.

Damage assessments are continuing through Thursday.
