DNR Enforcement Names New Assistant Director

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources recently announced that Maj. Greg Salo has been promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and named the Enforcement Division’s assistant director effective March 23.

The assistant division director acts for the enforcement director by directing the operation of the state’s natural resource law enforcement program, which includes, but is not limited to: enforcing statutes, rules and orders relating to game and fish, public lands, units of the outdoor recreation system, public waters, aquatic invasive species, recreational vehicles, safety training programs and wild rice.

“Major Salo brings solid experience with him to his new position,” said Col. Rodmen Smith, who was named division director earlier this year.

Salo joined the DNR in 2007 after spending 13 years with the Fridley Police Department, including over three years as a sergeant. He was initially assigned to the DNR’s Mora field station before moving to the Cambridge station. He spent two years working the east metro station before being promoted to captain and central region enforcement supervisor in September 2010. Salo was promoted to the rank of major and named the Enforcement Division’s operations manager in 2014. He has also served as a DNR Enforcement use of force instructor and firearms instructor.
