DNR Announces 2015 Fish Limits on Mille Lacs Lake

The amount of Walleye you can take from Mille Lacs Lake this year has been cut in half from two to one. The DNR says anglers can keep walleye between 19” to 21” long or a walleye longer than 28”. The DNR says they’re trying to keep the anglers happy while protecting the walleye population.

The DNR is researching what has lead to the dwindling walleye populations in Mille Lacs Lake. And they hope to find a solution to restore the fish levels back to where they use to be.

Local resorts on Mille Lacs Lake are looking for new ways to market themselves other than just for fishing. Like at The Red Door Resort and Motel, they’re planning to add a pool and the possibility of giving a free walleye dinner with a guests’ stay.

The DNR is limiting anglers to ten northern pike this year with only one being allowed to be over 30”, while limiting small and large bass to just 6. Even with the lower numbers the resorts say Mille Lacs Lake has world class fishing, especially when it comes to bass.
