People Needed For Dementia Choir Starting In The Brainerd Lakes Area

Dementia patients and their caregivers are needed for a choir that is starting in the Brainerd Lakes Area designed for people with dementia.

According to Essentia Health, multiple studies have found that the ability to recall music and nurture singing are among the last areas of the brain to be affected by dementia. Some patients that suffer from dementia may struggle remembering a phone number, but they can still recall song lyrics and melodies.

The choir is designed not only for people who suffer from dementia, but also for their caregivers as well. The main purpose of the choir is just to have fun, and for people with dementia to interact with one another.

The choir will gather Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd. All are welcome to attend, and for more information please contact Diane Guidi at [email protected].

To hear more about the choir, hear from Dr. Heidi Malling, a co-founder of the group, in the video below.
