Deer River Boys’ Basketball Survives Cass Lake-Bena’s Late Upset Bid

In boys’ basketball on Monday, Deer River was at Cass Lake-Bena for a big Class A showdown. The Warriors came in 4-0 and ranked eighth in the state, while the Panthers were 2-1 to start the season.

In the second half, the shooters came alive for Cass Lake-Bena, and with under two minutes to play, CL-B got the 68-66 advantage. But the Warriors got back out front, and Deer River hit their free throws down the stretch to come away with the 73-69 win and remain unbeaten.

The Panthers’ Kingsley Whitebird led all scorers with 26 points on the night.
