Deer River Boys Basketball Set for 7A Final Rematch with Cherry

For the third straight year, the Deer River boys basketball team is playing in the Section 7A championship game.

The Warriors beat Mountain Iron-Buhl in overtime Wednesday, and now they’re getting ready for a rematch of last year’s 7A final against the Tigers of Cherry. Deer River beat Cherry by 6 way back on December 1st in their season opener, but the Tigers didn’t then have their star junior guard and Minnesota Gopher commit Isaac Asuma.

The Warriors have had a balanced attack offensively all year, and it’s resulted in a 24-5 record, a 78-point average per game, and a current 14-game win streak. Deer River liked the way they competed against MI-B in the section semis and are up for the tough task that Cherry brings in the section final.

Tipoff for the Section 7A championship is set for 6 p.m. on Friday, March 17th.
