The Deer River High School baseball team has reached the Class A state tournament for the first time since 2011. The Warriors did not look like a state-bound team when the season began.  The starting lineup of seven sophomores, one junior, and one senior led to a lot of growing pains during a 1-5 start.

Their ever-improving defense provides a nice security blanket for sophomore pitchers Jeffrey Moore and Chad Benham. The two hurlers hit their stride when the errors ended and the winning began.
Deer River has gone 13-6 after the 1-5 start, and has won 9 of their last 11 games.

The eleventh ranked offense in Class A racks up 8 runs per game, specializing in small ball. Now, the Warriors take aim at number three seed New Ulm Cathedral in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday at the Mini Met in Jordan.
