UPDATED: Deer River Area Hit by Storm Damage, Fire Hall Sets Up Assistance

UPDATE:

• Minnesota Power is reporting that there are still about 600 Deer River residents that are without power and they are anticipating power to be turned back on throughout this day.
• There will be a public meeting with information for all Deer River/Ball Club area residents at the Deer River High School at 5:00 p.m. in the commons area.
• The Salvation Army and American Red Cross will have food, water, ice and information available at Deer River High School throughout today.
• Deer River Bible Church will be serving soup and sandwiches after 4 p.m. today.
• If you have power lines down and you are a member of Minnesota Power, please call 1-800-307-6937. If you are a Lake Country Power member and you have down power lines, please call 1-800-421-9959.

The Itasca County Deer River area was hit by widespread damage after storms came through late Tuesday afternoon, causing a large amount of property damage and widespread power outages throughout the area.

The Itasca County Sheriff’s Office has announced that food, water, and information will be available at the Deer River Fire Hall starting at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6.

A dock was also ripped out from the storm from 33586 W. Deer Lake Road, blocking a channel, the sheriff’s office reports. They are asking the public to use caution while on the lake. They are expecting to clear the dock out today.

Authorities are also asking people to check on their neighbors, and stay clear of downed lines and suspended trees.
