Deadline Set For Claims Against Essar

A final date has been set by a bankruptcy court for companies and individuals to claim debts against Essar Steel Minnesota.

U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware ordered that all non-governmental claims against Essar and its parent company, ESML Holdings, be submitted by 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 30. For governmental units the order has been set for 2:00p.m. January 4, 2017.

Claims have to be debts active prior to July 8, when the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Last week court filings showed that the company owes more than $1.1 billion dollars to at least 300 creditors. It claimed $208 million in assets.

It’s been estimated the company owes $75 million to contractors, including $49 million to local businesses.
