Cuyuna Lakes Lunch Bunch to Serve Area Youth Meals While School is Out

With summer just around the corner and the school year ending, some students may struggle to find a meal during the day. That’s why Cuyuna Lakes Lunch Bunch is preparing to provide nutritious meals for youth in the Cuyuna Lakes area.

Beginning on Monday, June 3 through Friday, August 30 (except for Thursday, July 4), the Lunch Bunch program will offer lunches on weekdays at various locations across the region. The community-driven initiative aims to bridge the gap for children who rely on school meal programs during the school year.

Four churches and the Cuyuna [Regional] Medical Center take part, so we serve anybody that comes,” said Ellen Brandt, spokesperson for Cuyuna Lakes Lunch Bunch. “It’s grown in terms of the number of lunches that are served. We’re up to almost 6,500 lunches in the summer.

The schedule for lunches this year will be:

  • 11:00 to 11:10 a.m. – Veteran’s Park, Deerwood (across from the Deerwood American Legion)
  • 11:20 to 11:30 a.m. – Grandpa’s Park, Ironton (behind MacDaddy’s Donut Garage)
  • 11:35 to 11:45 a.m. – Cuyuna Lakes Community Church, 604 Oak Street, Crosby
  • 11:50 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Cuyuna Range Food Shelf, 302 Cross Ave., Crosby
