Cuyuna Elementary School Principal Nominated For Distinguished Principal Award

Cuyuna Elementary School principal Kurt Becker has been announced as one of four finalists for the 2019 Minnesota NAESP National Distinguished Principal award.

Becker has been the principal at Cuyuna Elementary for six years, and for the last three years, the elementary school was recognized as a Minnesota School of Excellence. Becker was nominated by Christopher Bjerklie, a principal in the Red Lake School District, for the award. However, Becker attributes his nomination to the hard work of everyone else at the school.

“The nomination is definitely a school nomination, it’s a community nomination,” Becker said. “I’ve got an amazing staff, I have kids that work hard every day, and I have a community that really supports us, and when you put those pieces together you get a great school, and I’m lucky to be in a front row seat to watch it all happen.”

Becker will go through an interview process with the other three candidates on May 3rd before the 2019 Minnesota NAESP National Distinguished Principal is chosen.
