Crow Wing SWCD Shoreline Buffer Program Application Deadline Friday 4/24

Lakeshore organizations have until Friday to submit their proposals to receive grant funding from the Crow Wing Soil and Water Conservation District to build shoreline buffers. Grant funds will match 25% of cost for approved projects and require a 10-year minimum lifetime. And Crow Wing Soil and Water says spring is a great time to start buffer projects.

The program aims to keep lake water cleaner by using native plants to help reduce the amount of runoff into the lakes; especially harmful chemicals like phosphorous. The ice coming off the lakes was one of the roughest on Minnesota’s shorelines. And one lakeshore owner says he’s already seeing the benefits of the buffer he put in last summer. Funding for this program come from the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment.
