Crow Wing County, Sunrise Sertoma of Brainerd, and Kenwood Recycling Participate In Bites For Lights Program

The Crow Wing County Land Services Department, in cooperation with Sunrise Sertoma of Brainerd and Kenwood Recycling, is collecting unneeded Christmas lights and extension cords at select locations throughout Crow Wing County. The copper found in the old extension cords and Christmas lights is recycled through Kenwood Enterprises, keeping these materials out of the county landfill. Proceeds from the recycled materials are donated to local charities.

“We have collected almost 23,000 pounds since 2010 when the program started” stated Jeff Hilborn of Sunrise Sertoma. Over $4,600.00 has been raised since the program began to help purchase meals at soup kitchens and local food shelves in the Brainerd Lakes Area. County Land Services Director Mark Liedl commented “We are pleased to partner with Sunrise Sertoma and Kenwood Enterprises to help those in need while promoting recycling.”

The following local partners are participating by providing collection containers at their business, making it easier for citizens to drop-off old Christmas lights and extension cords throughout Crow Wing County.
