Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office Warns Residents of Fraudulent Activity with Storm Clean-Up

With clean-up continuing for some residents after last weeks storm that rolled through central Minnesota, the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office are warning residents of reports of fraudulent activity.

Stated in a release, there have been reports of individuals or company’s offering inspections to homes for storm damage and to give an estimate for repair. Crow Wing County Sheriff Todd Dahl reminds residents of some key checkpoints before committing to repairs:

• Check with homeowners insurance or individual insurance policy first, which may pay for a portion of the damage
• Check the credentials of anyone offering to clean up your property
• Companies should be insured and bonded
• No one should have to pay in advance for repairs or removal of trees, most companies will offer to bill you later for their service

To help locate suspected fraud dealing with the storm clean up, Sheriff Dahl is asking the public to report any suspicious activity in the area.
