Crosslake Launches ‘Freedom Flags’ Initiative Ahead of 4th of July

The City of Crosslake has officially launched the Freedom Flags initiative in time for Independence Day celebrations. The project is intended to honor those who gave their lives for the country’s freedom and recognize all who have served and continue to serve the nation.

More than 35 volunteers helped assemble hundreds of American flags to place along the city’s sidewalks in honor of the United States’ 250th birthday. Crosslake Mayor Jackson Purfeerst said on social media that the flags will fly for two weeks beginning Jun. 30.

“It’s absolutely amazing,” said Crosslake Freedom Flags Committee member Pat Netko. “The community of Crosslake comes together for many, many things, and this is just one of them. The letters and the cards we’ve gotten and all the notes in there, people are honoring their family and friends who have served in the military, who are still active in the military, and who have given everything for us. The patriotism is contagious.”

The Crosslake Freedom Flag Committee plans on installing flags for Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend on top of their 4th of July plans.
