Bemidji State Track and Field Head Coach Craig Hougen will retire following the spring season after 26 years of coaching at the University.

Hougen began his BSU coaching career in 1989 as the men’s track and field head coach and as part of the football staff. In 1993, he took over the women’s track and field team and added the cross country team in 1998.

During his Bemidji reign, Hougen collected six NSIC Coach of the Year Awards, winning two conference titles.

Hougen has coached 5 national champions, 30 All-Americans, and nearly 400 all-conference performers.

Hougen’s influence spreads far beyond the University. The coach has hosted several track and field clinics for high school athletes. The experience helps both coaches and athletes.
