Companies, Residents Make Green Changes Through Financing Program

A local business went green and is saving some green through a state financing program.
By using the Property Assessed Clean Energy Programs (PACE), qualifying business, non-profits, tenants and churches are able to make energy efficient and renewable energy updates to their buildings.

Through the program, AirCorps Aviation in Bemidji, was able to make green changes to its building before winter.

AirCorps applied for financing through the St. Paul Port Authority. Its buildings were assessed for potential energy saving changes and was then able to take out the long term loan to remodel or add renewable energy sources.

During its energy audit, AirCorps found that insulation on the side of the building had sunk and created a gap at the top of wall for potential heat loss. They were then able to put in better insulation, completely funded by pace.

They were also able to put more insulation in the attic and soon will have LED lighting as well. So far, the company has been pleased with the program.

Across town, Kay Mack, the Beltrami County Administrator, says that when she heard of PACE, she found it was a ‘no brainer’ to establish a local program. Using the money that AirCorps saves, they’ll pay back the loan with property taxes collected by the county.

The money will then be given to Port Authority. So far, the agency has had very positive feed back.
